Unforgettable Family Adventures: Exploring the Cotswolds Best Kid-Friendly Activities

The Cotswolds isn’t just a dream destination for adults — it’s a wonderland for children too. With its rolling countryside, storybook villages, friendly animals, castles, and hands-on experiences, the region is bursting with family-friendly adventures that blend fun, nature, and a touch of magic. Whether you’re traveling with toddlers or teenagers, you’ll find unforgettable moments waiting around every corner. From farmyard fun to falconry flights, here’s your guide to the best kid-friendly things to do in the Cotswolds.

Cotswold Farm Park – Guiting Power

Founded by “BBC Countryfile’s” Adam Henson, Cotswold Farm Park is a must for young animal lovers. Children can meet rare breed farm animals, enjoy tractor rides, bottle-feed lambs (in season), and explore a variety of indoor and outdoor play areas. There’s something charming about the connection kids make when petting a goat or giggling as a curious pig snuffles their wellies. Set just outside Guiting Power, it’s a full day of wholesome fun and countryside learning.

Our Sheepdog Demo – An Unforgettable Working Farm Experience

One of our most popular family experiences, the Sheepdog Demo offers an unforgettable glimpse into real country life. Set on a traditional working farm, children and adults alike are amazed as our expert shepherd guides his loyal sheepdogs through an incredible demonstration of obedience, communication, and instinct. It’s interactive, personal, and truly memorable — a rare chance to experience something authentic and rural in the heart of the Cotswolds. You may even meet a few lambs while you’re there.

Birdland Park & Gardens – Bourton-on-the-Water

In the heart of Bourton-on-the-Water, Birdland is home to over 500 birds including flamingos, penguins, owls, and parrots — plus a Jurassic section with life-sized dinosaur models hidden along a woodland trail. It’s educational, entertaining, and just the right mix of interactive and relaxing for families. Afterward, enjoy a walk along the river or grab ice cream by the green. Bourton’s flat terrain and riverside setting make it perfect for strollers and little legs alike.

Our Old McDonald English Farm Experience – A Cotswold Classic for Little Ones

Tailored for families with younger children, the Old McDonald English Farm Experience brings the classic farmyard to life. Feed the animals, hold fluffy chicks, meet the miniature donkeys, and sing along to a few familiar tunes. Set in a peaceful corner of the Cotswolds, this experience is both educational and delightful — a gentle-paced, interactive way to introduce children to life on a real English farm.

Cotswold Wildlife Park – Burford

A family favorite for good reason, Cotswold Wildlife Park combines the wow-factor of lions and rhinos with the intimacy of walk-through enclosures and farmyard animals. Kids can watch penguin feeding, hop aboard the narrow-gauge railway (a huge hit with toddlers), and burn off steam in the adventure playground. The park is beautifully landscaped and spacious — so even on busy days, it feels calm and enjoyable. It’s a top-tier day out for all ages.

Walk with Hawks: Our Private Falconry Encounter

Get up close and personal with magnificent birds of prey on our exclusive Walk with Hawks and Owls experience. Set on a scenic Cotswolds farm, this private falconry encounter allows children to handle a real hawk, owls and other birds and call them to their glove under expert guidance. It’s safe, educational, and thrilling — an experience that leaves both kids and grown-ups in awe. A fantastic way to build confidence and create one-of-a-kind memories in a truly magical countryside setting.

The Model Village – Bourton-on-the-Water

At a 1/9th scale, The Model Village in Bourton-on-the-Water is a quirky and delightful stop that’s especially fun for young children. Kids love the feeling of towering over miniature cottages, shops, and even a tiny version of the Model Village itself — it’s a classic Cotswold curiosity! It’s small enough to enjoy in under an hour, but the memories (and photos) last much longer.

Sudeley Castle – Winchcombe

Mix history with play at Sudeley Castle, where children can explore formal gardens, a fascinating castle, and one of the largest adventure playgrounds in the region. There’s a special area for toddlers and rope bridges, zip lines, and climbing frames for older children. While kids enjoy the outdoors, parents will appreciate the stunning scenery and Tudor history — including the tomb of Queen Katherine Parr, Henry VIII’s last wife.

Creating Cotswold Memories That Last

One of the joys of a family trip to the Cotswolds is how effortlessly fun and meaningful the experiences are. It’s not about flashing lights or crowded theme parks — it’s about quiet joy, discovery, and connection. Whether your child is chasing butterflies through a wildflower meadow, watching a hawk take flight, or feeding a baby goat, you’re creating stories they’ll never forget.

So pack your boots, bring the snacks, and let the Cotswolds be your family’s outdoor playground. With a perfect mix of natural wonder, real farm life, and captivating experiences, it’s the kind of place where the countryside becomes your classroom — and every day ends with happy, muddy, tired little explorers.
