For families and those with interests in history, literature or medieval England our Shakespeare and Warwick Castle day tour is for you. Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick Castle do become busy in the Summer, so your driver guide will tailor this day to maximum your time and beat the lines and if you wish to fall back in the tranquil Cotswolds we shall do.
Stratford-upon-Avon is on the must-see list for most visitors to England, the birthplace of the world famous playwright William Shakespeare. We will lead you on a Cradle to Grave walking tour from Shakespeare’s birthplace, to his school, his family homes, places of inspiration, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and finally to his grave in a pleasant church on the banks of the River Avon.
The tour can be as history led as you like and as a fluid as you want, along the way we can stop for tea or families can stop by the famous Magic Alley. For the adventurous and our families one of our favourite things to do in Stratford is hire a rowing boat before heading to the church and rowing up the majestic River to Shakespeare’s church and to get out there! After our visit to the town there are many other Shakespeare led sites such as Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and Mary Arden’s Farm we could visit too.
Before heading to Warwick Castle we’ll pop into the town of Warwick and stop for lunch in the historic town. Warwick Castle isn’t for everybody as it can be busy, but for families and medieval interests it’s truly one of the finest examples of what a Castle was like. You can immerse yourself in a thousand years of history and climb the Castles walls and interact with live demonstrations and talks throughout the day. Head into the dungeons for some of the darkest, bloodiest and most frightening times in the Castle’s history as live actors and special effects bring to life these gruesome tales.
To finish the day we’ll branch back to the Cotswolds via idyllic villages like Ebrington and Blockley, or perhaps finish with a garden visit to Kiftsgate Gardens or afternoon tea in Chipping Campden.
My brother and I grew up on our parent’s farm in rural Alabama, so when he, my mother, and the rest of the family came to visit me in a London, they wanted to see the British countryside. We couldn’t have picked a better guide for this than Robin Dale. Robin’s deep knowledge of the Cotswolds and adaptability made the tour one of the best parts of our trip. Josh, USA.
