The Historic Cotswolds
England is steeped in history and this exciting tour will allow you to find out about many of the events that shaped our magnificent country. You will be transported to Blenheim Palace where your guide will take you on a private tour of Sir Winston Churchill’s birthplace. Next up will be a visit to the Rollright Stones, a mysterious stone circle that was built as the trilithons of Stonehenge were being hauled into place.
After this busy morning we’ll take you for lunch at a 16th century inn or perhaps ‘The Porch House’, reputedly the oldest inn in England, dating back to 949AD. Then it’s off through the Cotswold hills to Gloucester, where you will be guided around one of the most magnificent ‘Gothic’ cathedrals in the country, so good in fact, that it was used extensively for filming of a little series of movies about a boy called ‘Harry Potter’. The day will end with visits to both Tewkesbury and Hailes Abbeys, significant sights of pilgrimage and worship for over 500 years. This is a day to remember for any lover of English history and can, of course, be fully tailored to include other historical sites close to the Cotswolds including Warwick Castle, home of ‘Warwick the Kingmaker’, Sudeley Castle, burial place of Henry VIII’s last wife Catherine Parr, Hereford Cathedral, home of the famous ‘Mapa Mundi’ and Jane Austen’s former home and home to the Romans, the city of Bath.
